Exit through the record shop

After months of prepping on Smallkid's behalf, the exhibition was a success. I don't think anyone really knew how many people would submit work, since it was left so open to public submission. Well I didn't anyway - even though people were posting pics on facebook before the event. I had no idea so many different artist's would have work there, it was absolutely sick. So many different things going on - I kept seeing something new every time I looked. Then again, I was absolutely battered...
One of the walls filled. Top to bottom, left to right.
My triptych that I managed to pull off at last minute. Although they were the wrong way round when I got there. Note to self: Leave instructions next time...

'Don't believe the type'

Another of mine. It had sold before I even turned up! Which filled me with confidence for an animation for a screen-saver I want to make. Still not sure of a title for it. Few ideas but still not happy with any of them so watch this space for when the animation happens....
The last piece of work submitted by me. Hands (again), but this was just a practice for the triptych.
Simeon of Bantum's submissions. We were still finishing these watching the world cup when they were supposed to be in the day before. Standard. (I'm still not even sure if the fry-up is finished??)
wanted to buy this all night, then when I went to buy it, it had been sold. A lesson I think.

New artworks for up-coming Exhibition 'Exit through the record shop'. A showing of new works on record vinyl at 'Oh my Gosh' records'; Mansfield road, Nottingham.

May 16 (Come Dine with your Momma)

Simeon from Bantum Clothing appeared on Channel 4 show 'come dine with me'. In celebration we hosted a food inspired event! With live illustration on models, Pizza making, colouring in competitions, live music and of course - a screening of Simeon's social suicide.

N.T.U Interior Architecture Design hoods

I was commissioned in part with Bantum Clothing to design the Nottingham Trent interior architecture course hoods for the final year students. They wanted to use the scale ruler icon to keep in fitting with their degree show branding.

Each of the scale ruler icons is unique having all been individually hand drawn.

April

Live illustration at 'Nottso dependent' a celebration of local independent businesses In Nottingham. From some time back in April - 23rd I think.

The following night I had clothes that I'd designed for Bantum (The bunny collection) on the catwalk at the 'Bangers and Fash' show at Spanky Van dykes (once again in Nottingham). Did some more live illustration...

12-Mar-2010

So what have I been up to then? I can't really get into this blogging thing - its hard work to keep up to date. But either way I've got some news to post, so here I am
doing it....

Firstly the sketchbook jams at Shop have been underway once a week - and going well. Positive response from all those attending. Think its nice for people to just get a chance to sit down and do some drawing without any other distractions. Mucking around aside, we've got some good stuff coming together and should hopefully be able to get some little zines printed. Which will probably be available from Shop's website. Watch this space for more info on that.

Here's a work in progress! A collaboration between myself, Rikki Marr, and Small Kid

Went to Flood it on Wednesday, the night of screen printing and live music established by Norman Hayes of Waste. Some nice artwork from Norman himself, Alex Godwin, Jennie Webber, and a new one to me, Martha Glazzard. I took the opportunity to bag myself a new t-shirt :D

Just uploaded a design to the 'Don't Panic' poster competition. Hopefully people will like it and then they will vote for it and I will win! but in the likely event that doesn't then It's quite a nice little self-initiated project for the portfolio. Not sure If I'm allowed to post it on here though (term's and conditions nonsense) so if you want to see it (and vote for it) then its at the link above.

To finish with here's a photo of me doing some live illustration at Ispo in Munich. The characters are for the new Bantum clothing collection I'm desiging. Coincidentally, I'm drawing them at the Elementz studio Art/Music Mash up thing tomorrow with Dilk and Waste. Looking forward to it.

Watch this space for more updates on the sketchbook jams!

Last Thursday, at Shop was the first of hopefully many sketchbook jams. The plan was just to sit around passing a few sketchbooks round, collaborating on a few drawings which, when we have enough, we'll get made into a little booklet. Also, some silk-screens to make some prints with. It was a success with featuring work from myself, Rikki Marr, Bantum, Kid30, and Kaption1. Looking forward to a few more sessions with a few other collaborators.

18-Dec-09

I was recently asked to design a logo for a project on branding. The brief was to design a logo for a new car company called 'Vida' which is spanish for 'lifetime'. Only spent about a day on it, but I was quite pleased with the result.

17-Dec-09

Not much to report, but the catalogues I have been working on for Shop should be going to print soon. The four catalogues document separate exhibitions at the Shop exhibition space. Firstly, Dead Celebrities a showcasing of various illustrators and artists. Guy Brown a collection of recent works from the Nottingham based furniture designer. Xeno5 a newly established group of illustrators. The show features work from Si Mitchell, Laura Copeland, Map-Map, and James 'Couk' Downing. Finally, Regenerate Clothing an ethically made Nottingham based fashion label. Watch this space, i'll get photos posted as soon as I can...

A bit of excitement earlier this week....

You know you've made it when someone tweets you :D

Finally - put some more photos up of another paper bag I've drawn on. Its the one I did before prototype, I just never got round to posting photos. Its under the brown paper bags section....

21-Nov-09

Managed to get a hold of some photos from the designers block event back in Septemeber that I helped Bantum Clothing out with. Theres alot more over at verydesignersblock.com. I'm not really sure if I'm allowed to post these, as I don't know the photographers name and can't credit him, but I think its Toby. Sorry :s

Yours truly screen printing in the background :D

9-Nov-09

Well, finally got my website up and running again, having to wait forever for my laptop to be fixed!

Currently working with the guys at Shop,an award winning creative collective. It is home to illustrators, film-makers, fashion designers, furniture designers, music producers, and even a mind reader! Commited to putting on plenty of events and workshops, i'd say Shop is a space to watch.

I'm also currently exhibiting work in the show 'Part 1', the first show from the artist's group 'Sixes & Sevens', an umbrella organisation, that supports numerous artists, hosting a a variety of different practices and events. You can see the show at Surface Gallery until the 14th November 09.

Here's a quick taster of the show, i'll get some better documentary photos posted soon...
